Constrained Total Energy Expenditure and the Evolutionary Biology of Energy Balance.
نویسنده
چکیده
The human body adapts dynamically to maintain total energy expenditure (TEE) within a narrow physiological range. Rather than increasing with physical activity in a dose-dependent manner, experimental and ecological evidence suggests the hypothesis that TEE is a relatively constrained product of our evolved physiology.

Constrained Total Energy Expenditure and Metabolic Adaptation to Physical Activity in Adult Humans
Current obesity prevention strategies recommend increasing daily physical activity, assuming that increased activity will lead to corresponding increases in total energy expenditure and prevent or reverse energy imbalance and weight gain [1-3]. Such Additive total energy expenditure models are supported by exercise intervention and accelerometry studies reporting positive correlations between p...
متن کاملAn Energy-efficient Mathematical Model for the Resource-constrained Project Scheduling Problem: An Evolutionary Algorithm
In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient mathematical model for the resource-constrained project scheduling problem to optimize makespan and consumption of energy, simultaneously. In the proposed model, resources are speed-scaling machines. The problem is NP-hard in the strong sense. Therefore, a multi-objective fruit fly optimization algorithm (MOFOA) is developed. The MOFOA uses the VIKO...
متن کاملIs Brown Adipose Tissue-Mediated Adaptive Thermogenesis the Missing Component of the Constrained Total Energy Expenditure Model?
sis, the magnitude of the reduction of activity energy expenditure component points out to an additional reduction in non-muscular energy expenditure (e.g. reproductive activity or somatic maintenance) [1] . Clarifying the mechanism for the decrease in non-muscular energy expenditure is crucial to fully understand the PA-TEE relationship. Here, we hypothesize that the adaptive thermogenesis med...
متن کاملPhysical work causes suppression of ovarian function in women.
The suppression of reproductive function is known to occur in women engaging in activities that require high energetic expenses, such as sport participation and subsistence work. It is still unclear, however, if reproductive suppression is a response to high levels of energy expenditure, or only to the resulting state of negative energy balance. To our knowledge, this study provides the first e...
